Within the project a summer school was organised for Slovenian secondary school students from 16th to 20th of June on the Pokljuka plateau in Triglav National Park (TNP) in Slovenia by Agricultural institute of Slovenia, Slovenia forest service, Biotechnical faculty – University of Ljubljana, Triglav National Park administration and DOOPS – BirdLife Slovenia.
There were 24 participants and 10 mentors from four Slovenian secondary schools. They were introduced to research processes, methods of collecting different data from the field and to analyse and usage of data. With the help of experts, the pupils were collecting data and working on different information about the soil, flora, fauna, forest ecosystems and ecosystem services of Pokljuka and its surroundings.
Apart from the opportunity to get new experience and knowledge, the summer school provided participants additional information about the project’s content and aims. The participants also learnt about TNP as being one of the pilot areas for the evaluation of dispensable renewable energy, as a source of energy and for estimating the consequences of the usage of biomass on biodiversity and soil.
The pupils also had the opportunity to experience teamwork and networking. The results of the summer school in Pokljuka (inside TNP) will be presented to the public in autumn on a workshop which will be organised at the headquarters of TNP in Bled.
